A New “Declaration of Independence” in Healthcare
by Scott MacStravic
These are all encouraging directions in terms of personal management. It is interesting that while we are bombarded with information regarding managing our personal wealth, there isn’t such a push for personal wellbeing. Perhaps if the banks got more involved in the HSAs this would change?!
The concern that I have is that “healthcare” is all about the the physician, providers, regulators, payers, etc. deciding what we the patient consumer need for treatment. This is based on traditional clinical studies/trials and significant accumulation of data. In contrast, “wellness” is based on providing the consumer with what they want in order to keep “well”. This is based on limited if any science but based on the present and predicted personal spendings this does not seem to deter the consumer.
The problem in both healthcare is that the business model is for a “technology push” while in wellness it is a “market pull”.
Perhaps, what we need is a new business model?
