Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t. Use the first name, and you are partonizing. Use the last name in public and you violate HIPAA. Call them friend or sir/madame and you are politically incorrect. Refer to them withou a name and you are insensitive. Believe me, it’s a no win. Many of the 80 year olds we care for are for are calling our professionals Honey, Sweetie and Girlie. Maybe we could call patients by a code name. Hey, buddy?
