Innovation in Health Care: Support, Kindness, and Caring
by Nick Jacobs
Innovation in health care can come in many forms, but the entire concept of creating innovative approaches to health care can easily be swept into the overarching category of technological advancements. That, in fact, is where the most significant investment has consistently been directed in health care. It’s characteristically thought of as a journey to the high tech side of the hallway where the latest diagnostic tools are collected, depreciated and repackaged.
This is where I have lived for over a decade. First in spiral PET/CT. First in 3 Tesla MRI. First in 3T breast coils, 4D ultra sounds, LTQFT’s for proteomic analysis, and genomic testing capabilities for clinical use. It has been the race to space except that we never left the ground. Miniaturized monitoring devices, scientifically derived analytical diagnosis through the use of complex algorithms coupled with the latest and greatest tool.
On a simultaneous path, though, we began to experiment with humanism. We started a journey toward assisting patients with behavioral modifications that would literally change their lives, their health, and their future.
This is the journey about which I would like to provide insights for the WorldHealthCare Blog. Spirituality, emotional support, dietary adjustments, stress management and exercise along with access to loved ones 24 hours a day during a patient experience that includes music, aroma, pet and massage therapy coupled with live plants, decorative fountains, sky lights, and balconies on patient rooms. It’s a concept that embraces loving support, kindness and caring.
Now that would be innovative.
